January Crusade

15Jan07

Only a day away. There’s not much else to say except… you can expect less updates for a while.

The wait was hard for an impatient person like myself. What have I been doing in the meantime? Well, aside from playing Ys Origin, I started fiddling around with some other games I’ve been meaning to get to. Batch encoding videos doesn’t really leave my computer open to do anything else, so I started playing Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana while this was being done. I’ve got to admit, despite it’s many flaws, I still enjoyed the game for many reasons:

The option for Japanese voice acting. The English dub was horrible.

Norn. Possibly the highlight of the game, with her “-nyaa” dialogue and hilarious encounters with Lector.

Veola. She’s an awesome item namer, and she’s adorable when she finally opens up to Klein.

Lita and her jealousy. Any interaction between her and her rivals for Klein’s affection was great. I’m still not sure what anybody saw in Klein though… except Veola. I know her reason at least.

Blaire and Mofuma. They both have the funniest expressions on their faces, and the latter doesn’t even have to make a face at all to make me laugh. I just realized I named most of the shops you at which you can synth items. I didn’t really care for Norman, nor the wandering chef guy or bunny shopkeeper. Pictures to come later when Scinder tells me he’s seen Mofuma.

On the other hand, the main story was quite boring, aside from the parts where you meet Iris. Also, did I mention that I hate Popo? His JP voice is so annoying; I hated synthing anything with him just because there’ll be a chance I’ll hear his voice for a split second. Seriously. I hate him.

Foosh also introduced me to FantaTennis a while ago, which we’ve been playing regularly. While I’m certainly no Princess of Tennis, it’s fun playing doubles in Battle Mode. I suck at Basic Mode… it’s hard for me to even win the tutorial game! Ahh, if only you could shoot meteors and fireballs in Pangya…

Returning to old games again, I was recently reminded that I never played Seiken Densetsu 3, so I started that up on the emulator a couple of days ago. I went with an all girl team which is proving to be a nice challenge. The story with my main character, Riesz, doesn’t seem all that interesting though. Why do I want to rescue my little brother who single-handedly destroyed my kingdom, simply because he was stupid enough to flip the switch on the wind? Screw him. Little kid characters in games always get into or cause all sorts of trouble. What a pain.

Rogue Galaxy comes out at the end of the month. Horrible timing for me, since I’ll probably be engrossed in WoW with my Draenei. Strangely, it took them just over a full year to bring it over here, but I did read about some extra stuff being added to the game so perhaps that’s why. It looks pretty good for a PS2 game from what I’ve seen, and the descriptions of the gameplay have led me to decide to pick this up, despite knowing that I’ll likely not be playing it very often. Who knows, maybe it will be nice enough to steal some WoW time from me.
